Wellingborough men’s 1st XI Vs Kettering 2nds

Sponsored by Prop search

So Wellingborough look to start their pre-season with bitter rivals and newly promoted Kettering 2’s.

So playing at Kettering (not a million miles away)
Wellingborough travel with a balanced team, with all different abilities.

So some players returning from a lengthy break and some from traveling and even the regular umpire put some shin pads on.

1st half Wellingborough started strong few chance came from Kai and Martin but being the first game back I think everyone had some nerves still sitting there. Kettering even had a hand full of chances, but with the cat like reflexes for John bishop kept us in it.

Unfortunately a very well placed ball from an ex Boro player managed to find a player inside the D and they slotted the first goal to break the deadlock.

After a good team talk and we was back on for the 2nd half.
Kettering came out all guns, scoring from shorts with unfortunate deflections. One corner was conceded from a bad challenge on an ex Boro player, Martin was looking to be put in the sin bin but was a ‘very lucky boy’  to make it 4-0 up, Wellingborough looked down and out but the spirit from the players didn’t drop they dug hard and from some good play Boro managed to get a short corner and BOOM!!! First goal for boro. A mistake by AJ missed the stop but collected the ball himself  and slotted home with a well placed drag-flick.

Boro have seen blood and now going for more.
Another penalty corner for Boro and without any hesitation Langer’s strike from the top of the D found the corner of the goal.

That’s 4-2 could there be a come back??

In the mean time boro was down to 10 men from a silly mistake from Joe Roberts he’s off for 2 mins with a green.

Kettering have let their guard down, with Boro on the break, Martin pretty much in front of the keeper slots the ball through to AJ and the keeper comes out and cause another foul.

IT’S ANOTHER PENALTY CORNER

Could Boro make it 3 corners from 3?

Very well placed injection from Jose to the top, Kettering think they know what’s coming next.
WAIT!!! Dave hands it back to JOSE AND HE FINISHES WITH EASE.
THAT’S 4-3, Kettering are feeling deflated could there be one more.

With both teams tired and Kettering playing the game waiting for the final whistle.
They got their wish, Wellingborough definitely didn’t deserve to  lose the game but every player worked their socks off and showed lots of potential for the upcoming season.

Huge mention for Niall O’Rourke who got man of the match, having not played for 6 years worked hard.

Dick of the day was a joint effort for Joe Roberts-nuttall for his green card and Martin hill for taking out a player who’s name we cannot mention 😂.

Wellingborough next game is against Wootton 1’s

WE GO AGAIN
